Information: That mini bout of spring-like weather between January and February was just long enough to get the fruit trees pruned and chipped, the pear trees mulched and deal with half of a giant oak tree that had split off and crashed down near our greenhouse earlier in the winter. Our small, ancient Farmall tractor has gone back into hibernation again now as winter weather has returned with a vengeance. Luckily, our new farm dog, Toby, loves the snow! He moved in during December at just 13 weeks old, energetic, curious, affectionate and playful. Toby is a sturdy Tibetan Terrier, a breed developed for herding, so he can't help "practicing" on our small group of domestic geese. He's not allowed in the chicken yard! We are looking forward to planting some new vegetable crops along with our old favorites and some new fruit trees this year, but right now is the season of preparation squeezed in between storms. Last year we had snow on Mother's Day and all of our veggies were late and fruit froze. Farming certainly does teach patience! One thing is sure: spring does eventually always come. One of these days you'll be hearing from us that we have some delicious organic berries, tree fruits and a variety of garden-fresh veggies for you. We'll keep you posted. Watch our website for what's ripe as the season develops.
